As we were doing door to door ministry in the flats this week we had many awesome encounters that were spiritually uplifting. One particular story that has stuck out in my mind happened Wednesday afternoon. We walked up to a door that was brightly decorated and had a sticker of an Indian God on the front of it. Many thoughts were going through my mind, the biggest one being "We are going to get this door slammed in our faces if we knock on it". We decided to go ahead with it anyway and low and behold they do not slam the door, but instead invited us inside.
The only ones home were two Hindu sisters who looked about my age. We told them what our purpose of going door to door was and they understood our English pretty well. I personally did not know much about Hinduism, so we asked them about it. They told us about all of the Gods they worshiped and even brought out their religious books (the equivalent to our Bible). After they were done speaking it was our turn to explain Jesus and his love for them. They said they had heard of Jesus and admitted to hearing of his teachings. I sat in the house praying to myself for this family, and they way they were intrigued I thought we might actually be getting through to them. At the end of our explanation they said, "Okay well we will pray to your God along with all of ours". Wellll then we had to start over by telling them that as Christians we believe in ONE God, the one that created the universe, the one that holds all the power. I could see them trying to wrap their minds around this fact, but when they started to get a little frustrated and defensive we decided that we had done all we could do and it was time for us to leave. So we prayed for them and their family, but as we were walking out the door the oldest sister stops us and says, " So do you have a Bible with you?". We said yes, were ecstatic, and read a couple of versus with them!! She asked where she could get a Bible, but Rachel and I decided we were going to buy them one and take it to their house. I know with my whole heart that God was working in these women and it was totally a testiment to his power! Throughout the rest of the week I had many more encounters where God was already working in their lives and he used us to speak to them when they needed to hear it the most. We leave for Kyampisi tomorrow, but when we come back to Kampala the week after we have follow up visits scheduled with some of the people we met:):)
Everything and everyone is doing great here. We celebrated our "1 month Anniversary" last night at a United States Embassy party. It was complete with hamburgers, hotdogs, watermelon, cake in the shape of an American flag, and fireworks! Who gets to say they celebrated the 4th of July in Africa??? We had such a great time! I am so thankful to be here and love watching God work through us!
"If anyone serves, He should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and power forever and ever". 1 Peter 4:11
As always I love you all and hope you had a great holiday with family and friends! Sending love from Africa!!!
