Not sure if that’s mud on my shirt or…

This past week was one of my most emotional yet.  The more I see of this country the more my heart breaks for the need that is so evident and the more my faith is strengthened by the overwhelming joy and faith that these people have despite everything.  Driving out to a village school 3 hours away and seeing firsthand people living in conditions that make extreme poverty in the US seem comfortable I couldn't help but be angered by the unfairness that surrounds me.  I didn't understand why God brought me all the way here to get mad at him.  But then on the drive back from the village school and just as I was beginning to lose hope I noticed this amazing sky, seriously unlike one that I have ever seen, especially in the states.  It was then that I knew that in something as simple as a sunset, God has his hand on the country of Uganda and especially over His beautiful children who live here.

This week also brought me Grandma Irene.  The sweet old lady who lives less than 5 minutes from our hotel.  We went over one day to help clean and I ended up sitting on a mat on the ground in her bedroom talking about everything for over 45 minutes.  Her sweet and calm voice reminds me of my grandmothers and her strong faith in God did nothing but uplift me.  I don't understand how a woman who has done nothing but serve her husband by doing almost if not all of the work can still be so humble.  I was feeding off of her wisdom and ended up going to see her again later on in the week, even though it meant only being able to sit next to her while she laid in bed.

I thank God for the people and the things that I have seen so far.  My faith is growing so much.

Ps. special prayer request for my friend Lucky.  She has been in the hospital with malaria for the last couple of days, and for Grandma Irene who just had cataract surgery and is in a lot of pain.

PSS. it isn't uncommon for young children to go to the bathroom anywhere and everywhere, especially when you are holding them, and when that happens we call it a 'blessing from God.' I was lucky enough to a double blessing and had a little baby go number two while I was holding her….This Is Africa.
