Funny Things

Dear bloggies-

I have come to realize that my last few blogs have been very serious.  And though seriousness is needed in life sometimes, I would say, and hope that you agree, that comedy is quite essential to the survival of human kind.  So, in this blog, I will tell you about some of our funniest moments.

One day we were walking up the stairs to the roof where we occasionally hang out.  Jalin was behind Kayla in the line and Kayla heard a thunk.  Once we got to the roof and were off the stairs, Kayla turns around to ask Jalin, “Did you drop something?”  Without a moment’s hesitation Jalin looks Kayla straight in the eyes and says, “Just myself.”  Oh, Jalin, you clumsy, clumsy girl.

One day at lunch we were talking about all the ridiculous people who attempt to streak across sports fields.  I asked the question, “Can’t they tazer you now if you do that?”  And Robby replies, “You know, every time I take my clothes off, I have to think, ‘am I going to get tazered?’ and if the answer is yes, I keep them on.”  Yeah, you keep those clothes on, Robby.

One night, Zach, Zane, and I (the biggest nerds on the team) were really craving some nerdiness, so we started to play our own game of Lord of the Rings.  We each had a character.  Zach was Gimli (funny because Zach is 6’3” and Gimli is 4’), Zane was Legolas (funny because Zane is 5’7” and Legolas is 6’2.75” and has long flowing whiteish blonde hair) and I was Aragorn (funny because I’m not a man and he is, and I don’t know how to wield a sword, and he does).  If you knew us, you wouldn’t doubt it.

Here in Uganda we have a local dish called scooma.  It is something similar to spinach, but with no flavor, and they boil/steam it.  One afternoon while consuming this local dish, Zach lifts his fork to his mouth and says, “I love grass,” then proceeds to fill his mouth with the lush, green substance.

Zane.  Oh, Zane, what a wonderful triple doggy dare participant.  Speaking of scooma… Zane had some scooma on his plate the other day, and he looks at me and says, “I feel like a goat when I eat scooma.”  Of course I had to take advantage of the opportunity.  “I triple doggy dare you to act like a goat when you eat your scooma,” says I.  Very, very quickly Zane puts his plate on the floor, gets on his knees, makes goat horns on his head with his fingers, baaaaahhhhhs and takes a bite of his scooma.  Two seconds later he was back at the table acting as if nothing had happened.  Oh, Zane.

Remember that time I told you about where Zane, Zach, and I were playing LOTR?  Well, we were trying to get Jessica to play with us, and she didn’t want to.  After trying to convince her for a very long time, she eventually got so frustrated that her eyes rolled to the back of her head, smoke started coming out of her ears, and in the scariest voice I have ever heard she yells, “I DON’T WANT TO PLAY LORD OFF THEEEE RRRINNNNGGGSSSS!”  She was as terrifying as the Balrog.

Remember that blog Jessica wrote about the “swimming pool” our first week here?  Well, Craig was standing in preparation to kick water at Zach, and when he lifted his foot off the ground he fell flat on his back.  It was the most comical cartoon-like fall I have ever seen in my life.  Thank God he wasn’t hurt.

A while back we had a tea whose box boasted about the tea leaves having been grown in volcanic rock.  One day Robby was making a joke about his tea being so hot; “Oh man, the lava is really hot today.”  Kayla’s eyes got wide and confused, “Wait, there’s really lava in there?!??” Yes, Kayla, there really is.
