Learning to Listen

I am discovering much about what it means to listen to the Lord. So often I would come before Him in prayer; asking things of Him or telling things to Him, yet not much of my time was spent listening to the Holy Spirit. God is constantly speaking, yet we do not always listen to His voice or even know how to listen to Him speaking. As His follower, I am learning the utmost importance of taking in what the Lord is saying. The Holy Spirit guides if we seek Him and listen to Him. He answers us when we cry out if our ears are tuned to His words. He is speaking and we...

“Never Give Up”

So I wear this bracelet… it is really simple…. it's red and the material of a "Livestrong" bracelet but it reads "Never Give Up." When I started wearing this bracelet 6 months ago, it was to support my Uncle Steve in his courageous batter with ALS. Everytime I would look at it I would think "Never give up Uncle Steve," "with God all things are possible and you WILL overcome this." I had all the hope in the world that he would overcome this illness because he was such a strong man and loved life. On March 26,2010, he...

Something I never thought I’d say…

Here’s something I never thought I’d say…   I love my HIV/AIDS support group! haha there it is. I am a member of an HIV/AIDS support group here in Uganda. We meet on Fridays from 2-4pm and have a ball. There’s about 50 other women in the group and a couple of guys.   I suppose I thought that everyone would be depressed and have terrible stories to tell about their fight with HIV/AIDs. I thought it would be a place where people would be lonely, sad and struggling. And I’m not saying, that the people in the group don’t experience heart-breaking...

The Contrasts of Uganda

The cars rush past, I am terrified I will get hit by one. But my Ugandan friend assures me that I will not get hit, im not sure I believe him. This is the life in the big city of Kampala. It is very similar to any of the other large cities around the world except that they are speaking in Luganda and the driving is ALOT more crazy. It has such a feeling of adventure and livliness. Here you can find hamburger restaurants and knock-off watches. But not only that, but it has the feel of fast paced life with people rushing to and from work in suits. This is largely a contrast to the life...

You are God of THIS city

So i was planning on writing this blog about Kabale and our experiences there (which were amazing by the way!) Then we were walking through downtown Kampala this morning and it hit me…God never takes a day off!! He is constantly at work in the lives of His people!  As we were walking through the city i saw so many limp people-people with crutches, with canes, just sitting on the ground with limbs too thin or weak to work-and I was overcome with a feeling of sadness. i mean to see these people just sitting there on the sidewalk just did something to me…it twisted...

You are Loved

Kabale, Uganda can only be described in one word: AmazinglyMagnificent&BeathtakinglyBeautiful.   I found myself many times drooling after just looking at the mountains. Ok, not really but in all seriousness, the place is completely gorgeous and I am begging you to visit. The only way I can sort of explain it to those who have never been is that the mountains are literally like God’s huge arms wrapping around you. We were constantly in His embrace all snuggled up in the valleys of Kabale, and that feeling is amazing.   So Saturday night, the Lord actually gave me that...
