Oh The American Things We Do (or “It’s African Good”)

When traveling to a foreign country, there is no doubt you are gong to be taken our of your comfort zone, experience some sort of culture shock, and have to learn how to adjust to a maybe more primitive lifestyle than the one you are used to or a completely different way of living. In order to stay sane and to keep some feeling of normalcy, sometimes you may just have to invite a little of your own familiar culture into the one you are currently residing (keeping in mind of course that you may have to compromise with a few things if your new culture doesn’t exactly have the exact same...

Our 1 Month Anniversary:)

As we were doing door to door ministry in the flats this week we had many awesome encounters that were spiritually uplifting. One particular story that has stuck out in my mind happened Wednesday afternoon. We walked up to a door that was brightly decorated and had a sticker of an Indian God on the front of it. Many thoughts were going through my mind, the biggest one being "We are going to get this door slammed in our faces if we knock on it". We decided to go ahead with it anyway and low and behold they do not slam the door, but instead invited us inside.    The...

Serpha and Zebera

SORRY!!!!  I have been absolutely terrible about this whole blogging thing.. whoops 🙂   There’s just no good way to sum up the last 4? weeks.  (Is that how long we’ve been here?  We’ve completely lost track)  It’s been an incredible roller coaster of God pulling us out of our comfort zones, us adjusting and getting comfortable there, and Him pulling us out again.  It’s been awesome!  This last week we got the opportunity to work with a team from Portland who was here doing a crusade.  The way things worked I only got...

Warrior Hearts

If there’s one thing I’ve learned about the Ugandan people since I’ve been here, it’s that they are strong, in every way it’s possible to be strong. It’s not at all uncommon to see 5-year-old lugging around their one-year-old siblings on their backs or hips like they’re feather-light. Women carry enormous baskets of bananas and pineapples on their heads, hands-free, without breaking a sweat. We drink the water or eat the lettuce and we’re in bed for three days; they get malaria on a regular basis, like it’s the common cold, and...

Quick Update

A little bit of an update from the Real Life Uganda team: God is moving in mighty ways out here in Uganda, both in the capitol city of Kampala, and in the northern Lira District. From doing door-to-door evangelism with our Ugandan brothers and sisters, to dancing ourselves to exhaustion at an open air “crusade, the teams are doing everything they can to see God’s glory cover this land. While our bodies are not accustomed to this environment, and we cannot always handle the immense amount of carbohydrates being stuffed into our mouths (potatoes, sweet potatoes, corn, rice,...

You are Loved

Kabale, Uganda can only be described in one word: AmazinglyMagnificent&BeathtakinglyBeautiful.   I found myself many times drooling after just looking at the mountains. Ok, not really but in all seriousness, the place is completely gorgeous and I am begging you to visit. The only way I can sort of explain it to those who have never been is that the mountains are literally like God’s huge arms wrapping around you. We were constantly in His embrace all snuggled up in the valleys of Kabale, and that feeling is amazing.   So Saturday night, the Lord actually gave me that...
