Can my faith make him whole?

Today made an impact on me. This past week my team and I have been making hospital visits.  They separate the men, women, and children into different wards.  Each ward has thirty-plus beds lined up side by side with no curtains and no privacy.  The warm, stale air is hardly sterile, but nothing about those wards display cleanliness anyway. It’s intimidating to walk in at first, looking at an entire room full of broken people, but as soon as I walk up to that first bed the Holy Spirit completely takes over.  A majority of the patients believe in Jesus, some of...

Rat poop in my Tea…

It all started with the delicious tea that is placed on the table every morning around 9am. Hope and I both did our daily squeal of excitement when we saw it and headed for the table. Hope handed me a mug and we both filled our cups with the amazing steaming hot beverage, I sat down to drink my tea as my team filled their plates and returned to the sitting area where we eat. I was getting to the bottom of my cup of tea when I noticed a foreign taste. One more sip and the reason for the strange taste became painfully clear. There were three mouse turds in the bottom of my cup, from...

Miriam’s Broken Heart

I’ve been working with children most of my life, and I think I’ve seen it all when it comes to them being sick. From bumps and bruises to bloody noses and broken bones. From tummy aches and bug bites to diarrhea and projectile vomiting. When one of my students would come to me not feeling good I could usually diagnose the problem just by looking at them. I’d say about 98% of the time their feelings are hurt, they miss mom and dad, or they didn’t get enough sleep the night before and nap time should be sooner rather then later. I learned a fantastic tip for...

New Kenyan friends

I absolutely love Kenyan people. They are so friendly and go out of their way to make you feel like you are the most special visitor that has ever come to the city of Busia. All of it stems from their passionate love for the Lord. Everywhere you go, every person that is around comes and greets you by shaking your hand or giving you a hug. When they make eye contact with you they grin from ear to ear. The worship is absolutely incredible to where you can actually feel the Holy Spirit where ever we are. They dance, sing, jump, shout and cry in praise for the Lord. Church services last over...

He is Able

Yesterday three teammates and I had the opportunity to go to Deliverance Church in Matayos to share testimonies and preach. Pastor Gideon, our contact in Busia, spoke for a bit before we were invited to speak. The structure we were in was made up of small sticks and was about the size of a typical American master bedroom. If a strong wind came through there is no doubt that this structure would topple over. There were about fifteen people attending service. Pastor Gideon spoke of how our God is a big God. He is not poor but very rich. In America we might take a lot of what they preach here...

Sound Check, 1, 2, Thank You Jesus

“Sound check, 1, 2, thank you Jesus.” This past week, the church we’re working with in Busia hosted a series of crusades in a nearby village called Matayos.  To get to Matayos, our group crammed into a van along with several other people and all of the sound equipment needed for the crusade.  Along the way, it wasn’t uncommon for us to pick up even more people who needed a ride.  Every day when we got there, the guys would construct a 30 foot tower for the speakers, so that what was going on could be heard by everyone around.  The sound...
