Let It Rain

I love Uganda. Except for the heat. I've come to Uganda at the wrong time. You see, I am from Minnesota, and as much as I want to discourage stereotypes, it seems my cold Minnesotan flesh simply cannot handle the heat. So why did I decide to go to Africa when the dry season is beginning and the rainy season is sadly waving goodbye? Good question. We have been pretty lucky so far, though. We don't go more than a few days without rain to cool the weather down, but the days inbetween our thunderstorms are turning miserable and awful. Sometimes when I lay in bed at night and ralize...

What is Jesus doing in you?

What is Jesus doing in you?   This question was in one of my letters from back home. I kinda put the question on the back burner because I honestly didn’t want to think about it, but once I started thinking about it…this is what I came up with   *He showing me that He is God and I haven’t been doing a good job living by this. There were so many areas I didn’t trust Him in, or I was just scared to give Him 100%, but he’s showing me in order to fully fulfill the plan he has for my life, I need to trust him *Freedom only comes once I let Him in and let...

Weirdoes

After a month and a half in Africa, our team has discovered just how weird we are. (Africa can do some crazy things to a person!) We are so weird (well, I’m not all that weird) that we have decided on making a ranking system for our weirdness. The following are the current rankings and some explanations:   Craig- You never EVER know what he’s going to say next. Jessica- Her outbursts of weirdness are endless, unreal, actually! Kiersten- The sound effects that come from this young lady are quite odd! Zach- This young man is making shoes out of leaves, enough...

Good Ol’ Fashion Ministry

I can’t stress this enough, “What an awesome God we serve!!!!!!!”Just knowing his love and what I need to be doing to be a servant for him is inflaming my soul. Wow, God is so awesome.       Tuesday morning, we decided we were just going to ask the Lord, or ATL as we call it, to decide what we will do for morning ministry. We prayed and God told us each something different, so we separated. God told me to go do some good ol’ fashion street ministry in an ally that we always feel uncomfortable going in. I was a little frightened by this, but I prayed for...

Footing: The Way The World Transports

Satan is afraid of us.  How do we know?  Well, partly because Christ lives in all of us, and partly because he has broken three cars we have used for transportation.  That’s right, three cars.  The first vehicular victim was the Alpha van.   One day, long, long ago, the team was traveling home after a fun day of ministry when the Alpha van put-putted to a stop.  “What happened?” we asked our driver.  “The fuel,” he responds, looking at the fuel gauge, “it is not there.”  After several futile attempts at...

The Africa Poem

Oh Africa, Bittersweet sites of children, Laughing and at play, But their daddies left long ago, While they must stay, Their mothers are hopeless, The food ran out and the money isn’t there, Still they play to forget, to distract, Hey daddy, don’t you care? Oh Africa. Oh Africa, The old man sits on the corner, His skeleton fingers stretched out, Anything, anything at all? A sip of clean water for this man of draught, He’s held together by his skin alone, And that skin is no more than a cracking leaf, He’s ready to die and escape this pity, Can...
