the VAAAAAAAAANNNNNN!!!!!!!!

Welcome blog readers! So I know if you have looked at all the other blogs this week, you are probably tired of this topic, but it’s SUUUUPPPEEEERRRRR IMPORTANT!!!!!!!!!   We have been so blessed by the staff here at Alpha Hotel and we couldn’t ask for better. Our driver, Patrick, is always devoted to getting us to our ministries. On the other hand, the van that he battles to keep fueled, fixed, and ready to go isn’t quite as reliable. It often breaks down and is constantly causing the Alpha staff time and money to fix. As a team, we prayed hard about this disabling...

A Gift

Many of you have heard about the Alpha van.  It is the ministry van.  The Alpha van is used for many more things than just the team’s transport.  The van is sometimes used as the employees’ transportation, as well as the family of the employees, and it has often saved a random pedestrian from a 3 mile walk into town.  Unfortunately, the Alpha van is old and tends to break down a lot.  It puts quite a lot of stress on the Alpha staff (Alpha is the hotel we stay at, which is associated with our church) when it breaks down, because it means transporting...

Waldo Needs to Retire and Needs Our Help!

So, the ministry van, Waldo, at Alpha Resort Hotel is sick, old and wants to retire, but currently he has no younger van to take over his job. His sickness (besides being old) is frequent flat tires, a bad battery, many un-diagnosed problems that cause him to breakdown along the side of the road regularly, one of his doors doesn't shut all the time, and he's just plan falling apart. Waldo, knowing his days are counting down like a time bomb, desires to be retired, and to take a super long rest, but with no younger van to take over, he can't. He has asked us to speak for him,...

Where’s Waldo

Remember the fun books we had as kids where we had to find Waldo among the crowd of random people and objects? Well that has nothing to do with what this blog is about, except the fact of what we have named Waldo. We have a van here in Lira, that’s used to transport us from all our different ministries that we have cleverly named Waldo. Why Waldo, you might ask. Well you see, we are constantly asking “Where’s Waldo?” or “Where’s Patrick?” (Our driver.) We usually have about a 10-20 minute wait, and then the fun begins. We all pile in the van to head...

Fields of the Fatherless

I’ve been reading a book here in Uganda called “Fields of the Fatherless” by C. Thomas Davis. The book is about being Christ to the orphans, widows, strangers, and anyone in need. We hear about it all the time…go show love, be love, help those in need, but how often do we think that call is for others, not the right time in our life, or that it’s not God’s calling for our life? So often we tend to let our emotions respond…we judge, run, ignore the problem, or just pretend it isn’t there. We let fear determine our steps, but all the while the...

Friendly neighborhood superheroes

“The last crimson streak fades from the sky. The evening moon casts its blue light. Women and children rest their heads. Alpha sleeps. All is quiet. Almost… There are some that wake late in the night. Mischief stirs and trouble brews. Dark figures walk the streets. All of Lira sits on the brink of chaos, everything hangs in a balance so slight. All may be lost. But there are some who resist it. A flash of light breaks the night, and what was once dark becomes bright. A few, a strong few, defend this city from the terrors of the night. They are feared by all who are evil, and loved by...
