SHE PICKED UP HER MAT AND WALKED

Monday morning my two room-mates and I got up not expecting much of the day. We were tiered and ready for our day off. Our team leaders sent us out to "do as Jesus did". So what did we decided to do? Feed 5,000. We were debating whether we should get 5 chapatti or 7. When we got to the chapatti stand there were only 5 left. We were excited because Jesus only had 5 loaves of bread available to him, so it was perfect! We decided to go to the hospital to hand out the chapatti outside where people were waiting. We prayed over the chapatti (yes folks, we stood on the side of the...

Harbin-Glorious Warrior

Hello! This week we have started doing morning ministry based off what we have read in the gospels. In our rooms (there are 3 to a room), we are studying what Jesus did when he was on earth, and than doing ministry inspired by that. We were reading the storyof how Jesus fed 5000 with just 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish. We thought it would be cool to buy 5 chipatti (similar to pita bread or a tortilla), and pass it out by the hospital. We figured even if Jesus didn’t multiply the bread for 5000 people, he would work in some way! We decided that we would head by...

Congratulations!! You have a baby!

A couple of days back, our team leaders gave us the task of meeting with our roommates, searching the Gospels, and then going out and living as the disciples did. Darby, Ally Reed, and I decided that we were going to feed 5,000 people with 5 chapatis. Chapatis are pretty much the African equivalent of 5 loaves of bread. So we decided to buy 5 chapatis and then to pass them out to people waiting to get into the hospital.      We first bought our five chapatis, and it was cool because there were exactly 5 chapatis left at the cart we stopped at....

this one is not chicken

That is what James, a missionary in South Sudan, told me after he said "You can't be a chicken and go into Sudan". He looked strait at me and said "This one is not chicken". And he's right, I'm not chicken. In the past I've always thought I was a weak person. I would cry whenever someone would say something that was remotely unkind. I fell prey to so many temptations of this world. I allowed chains of depression and anxiety to pin me down for years. And I always assumed that that meant I was weak. Before I went on this trip, God reminded me of His...

johnny snides week 5

First of all I wanted to say sorry for skipping the blog last week.  Jordan and I chose to climb Ngeta "mountain" on our day off instead of blogging – which was a blast.  We rode boda bodas (motorcycle taxis) to this big rocky hill/mountain and climbed up to the super windy top for a sweet view of the surroundings.  Here are a few highlights from this week: Makyla and I got to make dinner with the hotel staff.  We made rice, beans, and chapati (flatbread) in this tiny little kitchen – cooking over charcoal fires.  It was so much...

“I am going to America!”

Her 8 year old self doesn't have an ounce of doubt in her voice as she declares that she is going to America. Her name is Oliver and her personality is as vibrant as her bright purple uniform. The first day I met her I found her a little pushy and never would have guessed that she would pull on my heart strings the way she does. There are days that her smile is the one thing that keeps me going. I ask her if she will visit me when she comes to America and she can barely get a yes out through her giggling. Her bright eyes bring more joy to my life than I ever could have imagined. S...
