A little back story…myself and 3 other team members have connected with a local woman here and her family. Many members of her family are Jehovah's Witness. She is called Grandee, we spoke with her through a member of her family named James (also a JW believer). After our conversation last Saturday about why we can know that Jesus is God (they believe Jesus was the Son of God, but not God), they asked us to come back in a week to discuss the Holy Spirit. They expressed to us how thankful they were that we approached them with love and kindness. They said we did not argue but, simply, spoke what our thoughts were without judgement, and that we listened to their beliefs with thoughtful consideration. Then Grandee said to me "Apoyo teno" which means "thank you, my daughter." (I just LOVE her!) So in preparation for our next meeting, I wrote in my journal:
Wow! God, You amaze me!
I have been reading John 14, 15, and 16. I decided this past week that I wanted to study those chapters, and I'm SO glad that I did! They ministered to so much to me, but while I was reading them, I also thought of Grandee and James and our upcoming conversation about the Holy Spirit.
From John 14, 15, and 16, Jesus is telling of the time that is soon to come when He will go to the Father. Also, that the Comforter will soon come. Here I thought of Grandee, who, I believe, will not believe that the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God. Consider the verses where it says "I will go to my Father" and then, "I will pray to the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter, that He may abide with you forever;" and "I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you" (John 14). These quotes reminded me of Joel 2:28: "And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh,…" This is so clearly God!
In Joel, God spoke! and said "I will pour out MY spirit…" There is no way that the spirit could be anything/anyone else, but God. Then in Acts 2, the Comforter comes and God pours out his spirit.
The Bible says in John 14:17 referring to the Comforter, "Even the Spirit of truth;…" So my prayer is this:
God,
Grandee and James need the Spirit of truth. I believe You want to give them the truth. I pray for that same spirit. Jesus, be all over and all in me and my team so that Grandee can know Your truth. I have so many thoughts! Thank You, God for knowing my thoughts!
I love You!
Your daughter,
Somer
This is Grandee!
