We’re Some Crazy Monos

Who in their right mind would do something like this? Who would choose to do this? Not too many people, mostly the crazy ones. We are just a crazy bunch of people, I guess.

There are 9 of us who chose to follow Jesus to the opposite side of the world from where we live. All of us chose to travel in an airplane for about 22-23 hours. We chose to stay for 3 1/2 months instead of the typical 10 day mission trip.

We chose to come basically blind to everything — we didn't know each other, we weren't sure where we were staying, we weren't sure what we were doing for ministry, etc. We chose to be exposed to poverty, hunger, injustice, hurts, pains, etc. We chose to love those who don't typically recieve love. We chose to give up being clean. We chose to be hot, sticky, and sweaty. We chose to leave home. We chose to eat potatoes, rice and chicken everyday.

Most people would say we are crazy. Some of us even thought a few years ago that it took only crazy people to come and do something like this. We chose to do this, but who says we were crazy before we got here. Maybe the crazy wasn't in us when we were still at home. Maybe it doesn't take crazy people to go on the missions field. Maybe the mission field makes a person crazy.

At one point we were "normal" but something changed in us to become a crazy bunch of people. What changed was our realization that we love Jesus and and want to follow Him wherever He takes us. For us, Jesus lead us to Uganda. I think our love for Jesus and ovedience to Him made us crazy.
