It's so hard sitting down to blog about my experiences here in Lira. There are so many things that I want to share, so many things that I want to say. So I'll give you a little peek a day earlier this week.
From my journal: February 3, 2012
Oh what a day! I'll start with yesterday…
Yesterday was a day for quiet time. We compiled a list of 200 things we want to see God do in our lives, in the team, and in Uganda. The quiet time was much needed.
Today we are just beginning to flex the muscles we'll be using in ministry. We have a plan of action, and we are eagerly awaiting the opportunity to implement those plans. Today was great! Five of us girls walked to town to run a few errands. On the way we stopped in a wonderful little cafe and gift shop, and then as we got closer to town, a man on a boda boda stopped to speak with us. His name was Francis. He told us that he was trained by American soldiers in Entebbe (they taught him to swim! among other things). And now? He LOVES Americans. He said that when he sees Americans, he must stop to tell them of his appreciation.
My first thought? "It's just not everyday…" (Ha!) But thinking back on it, Wow! What an experience?! Kudos, America, and shame on some of us for feeling like America can only do wrong these days. This young man's life was impacted for the better because of American intervention. Now this got me to thinking about the power we hold.
Fact is…we are still the most powerful nation. (This is similar to the fact that we Christians know that in the end we win the battle. Stay with me here.) The point/ We have a RESPONSIBILITY to do something. "To whom much is given, much is required." It's time we started acting like this is true. Thank you, Francis, for the reminder! (& for speaking French with me.)
In other news, today, I also did laundry…Uganda style! And I loved every second of it. Sarah was singing songs she had written, we were all in my room, and the atmosphere was beautiful!
