You know what one the greatest things is about being on the mission field? It’s the surprises, the stuff you never expected or thought you would experience. For me, meeting other missionaries has been an awesome surprise. Sure, I knew we would meet up with fellow missionaries sometime, but we have been blessed to meet an abundance of them here. We’ve met people from Denmark, from Norway, from Canada, and even some other Americans. So cool! These folk have all been so interesting and unique, and I’ve learned some stuff from each of them.
One missionary in particular impacted me a great deal. His name is Chester (not the cat) and he’s from Canada. This guy is crazy! He spends six months of every year on the mission field doing God’s work in many countries, which Uganda is one of. One of his main ministries is helping people who have AIDS. He has given hope to AIDS patients beyond count with a mineral called Selenium and is continuing to discover new and better ways to improve their quality of life. We were honored to have him stay in the same hotel we’re in for a couple of weeks. The last day he was here, we went to pray over him as he was moving on to his next ministry place. After we did so, he turned right around and began praying for our group. He started lifting up specific prayers that we had been lifting up as a team! For example, we had been praying that God would reveal any spiritual gifts that we have, and that was the first thing he prayed over us! It was great.
Chester is a professional. Not because he gets paid a bunch of money for his job, but because he is so good at what he does. He knows how to love and help people. He sees needs and he figures out how to best meet those needs. He sees how much people need God’s love and he decides to give up half of every year of his life to make sure those people have that love. After seeing Chester and the overwhelming difference he is making where ever he goes, I decided that’s what I want to become. I want to be a professional servant. I want know how to help and love anyone I come in contact with. Praise the Lord!
In Christ,
