Oh the things we come up with while bored in Africa. We have invented countless games, played a number of card games, and just done some flat out crazy things due to boredom here. Half the time we have no explanation for the things we do or say, and simply blame it on being here in Africa. It might be the sun, but something here tends to make people go a little loco after some time.
Our leaders pow-wow every night for countess hours. We plan on watching movies together, but always have to wait till they’re done. By time they actually get done, everyone is tired and the movie is a no-go. Thursday’s though, take extremely long due to one reason: Kayla calls. They get a call every week from an AIM staff member to check in and all that jazz and it usually takes forever. Their pop-wow’s are already extremely long, but add Kayla into the mix, and we’ll be waiting at least 2.5 hours.
Due to boredom, and wanting to have fun, we’ve discovered that Kayla calling days are the best days to mess with our leaders. (Our little secret, we just want to be Kayla’s favorite and for her to never forget us, and how can she with the stuff we’ve done.) Anyways, four of us (Kiersten, Zach, Zane, and I) have taken it upon ourselves to make sure that every Kayla calling day is a day to remember. Lets just say that last week, we did a Roman séance in the room our leaders were talking in. The séance included togas, a harmonica, fire, and us singing “Kumbaya.” We decided that we had to come up with a name for ourselves to be legit, so we came up with KCC: Kayla calling committee.
I don’t know how we come up with some of the things we do, but they are always so much fun and leave us laughing a long time after we finish. I think a big part of why we do it, is to see our leaders reaction. Regardless of why we do it, it always turns out to be fun and leaves us with some great memories.
So be warned, tonight is not the last night the KCC will strike.
