SORRY!!!! I have been absolutely terrible about this whole blogging thing.. whoops 🙂
There’s just no good way to sum up the last 4? weeks. (Is that how long we’ve been here? We’ve completely lost track) It’s been an incredible roller coaster of God pulling us out of our comfort zones, us adjusting and getting comfortable there, and Him pulling us out again. It’s been awesome! This last week we got the opportunity to work with a team from Portland who was here doing a crusade. The way things worked I only got to go to the crusade the last two nights and they were incredible.
Saturday afternoon we all headed to the local technical college for the crusade. The place was packed, like it had been every night, full of people thirsting for a taste of God. As soon as we walked up, the children flocked. This happens EVERYWHERE. They see a mizungu (white person) and just can’t help themselves 🙂 We’ve been so blessed with opportunities to just love on the kids here and introduce them to the Father who loves them more than we ever could. We got up and danced with them when the music started- each of us with at least two kids on each arm, sat with them during the soccer match and tried our best to keep them quiet when the speaker began sharing the Gospel. Saturday night two sisters, Zebera (10) and Serpha (9) found me and didn’t let go until we had to get on the bus. These are two of the most beautiful girls I have ever seen. Not only did they have the beautiful dark skin that everyone here has, but the light in their eyes when I gave them each a bracelet was almost blinding. These girls haven’t grown up in a life full of luxury and their lives haven’t been easy either that’s for sure. Serpha- the more talkative of the two- told me that her father had been killed and that they lived with their grandfather. She also told me that they had 8 sisters and 2 brothers- can you imagine?! But these little girls are blessed. They had someone to look after them. They go to school. They have shoes. And they have joy. It’s incredible how much my ideas about what ‘blessed’ means have changed.
I came to Africa hoping to make a difference in someone’s life, and I know that that has happened. But what I didn’t expect was how much I’m changing- the difference these lives are making in my own. I’m learning what real Joy in the Lord is. (Mom I know this one will shock you-) but I’m enjoying waiting on the Lord. I prayed for patience, and He’s delivering. It’s absolutely incredible.
Please continue to pray for our team and the things we’ll be doing here in our last 3 weeks of ministry. We’re planning on starting a discipleship program in a few of the local schools and Brent and I will be talking to and training the teachers about how to continue discipleship when we’re gone. Pray for wisdom and guidance for us- that we’ll know how to best teach others to teach others to be more like Christ.
Love you all!!
