Being in a new place for quite a while makes picking up habits pretty easy, so mom and dad, this is your warning!
– If I wake up in the morning, go outside and start bathing with a huge basin of water… don't worry, as soon as I see our neighbors, I will quickly run back inside!
-If I sit at the table and just expect food to appear… I'm sorry, I just haven't had to cook in 2 months!
– If you go outside and see my laundry hanging all over the place… don't worry, my "nickers" won't be out there because that is completely inappropriate!
-If I go to the mall and start bartering… please remind me that I'm in America!
-If I start playing with other people's children public places… it's fine, I won't actually take them home!
-If I follow you EVERYWHERE, even in the house and stay up realllly late talking to you… I'm sorry, I just haven't spent a moment alone in 2 months!
-If I get really excited about small things like ketchup, cheese, or garbage cans… it's fine if you laugh, just let me have my moments of happiness over the small things!
-If I step out in the middle of traffic… ok maybe you should worry because Americans don't swerve nearly as well as Africans!
On a more serious note…
This past week has been absolutely ah-mazing! Our team went door to door in the Flats Apartments in Kampala, we had the opportunity to talk to so many people of different religions and backgrounds, people who have seen so much and that have amazing stories to tell.
We knocked on one door and a beautiful Muslim girl answered the door, at first hearing that somebody else is in a different religion is kind of intimidating, but my God does not see religion as a barrier and that is very assuring! As we were telling her about our Lord and what it means to be a Christian, we also asked her about her religion. She told us so many rituals and rules that she has, she told us that she HOPES she can go to heaven and that she is trying to be good enough. I asked her if Allah would forgive her when she messed up and she looked at me like I was crazy and said no, I asked her if she was scared to die since she didn't know where she would end up and she said that she was and that it was part of her belief to be scared, every time she told us about her belief, my brain boggled a little bit! I'm so so thankful that I have a God that LOVES me and that I don't have all these rules to live by and then an added fear of where I will go when I die. We told her that our God LOVES her and our God thinks she is PRECIOUS and that when we died we knew without a shadow of a doubt where we were going and that we could promise her the same thing. She didn't know what to think, her eyes got SO big and her face changed, almost like there was a weight lifted off her shoulder. We asked if we could pray with her and once we explained that it is ok for us to pray without bathing first and that even though it's not 4:00 we can still pray, she agreed. I wish I could say that the Lord opened her heart and her eyes and she became a Christian, but that is not what happened. But I do know that a seed was planted and that she didn't just close the door and forget about what we said. My prayer is that people that can answer her questions will continue to show up in her life and that the Lord makes himself so so evident in her life that she has no question that it is Jesus Christ showing up in her life! Our whole team has so many stories to tell that are similar to this one and the Lord is showing up in mighty ways in this town!
Tomorrow we are leaving for Kyampisci to do some manual labor and whatever else the Lord has in store for us!
Love you all so so so much!
