On Thurday nights at the Kyampisi church, our team leads a Bible study for the children. When looking back on many of the Bible stories I was taught in Sunday school, I was in awe of how a small boy named David killed the giant Goliath, how Joshua prayed the sun would stand still so he would win a battle that God promised victory over, and how Elijah prayed that the rain would stop for three years to show they power of his God. I can easily get caught up in lies that only these "great Bible characters" can have enough faith for these events to happen. But, we have the same God who preforms the same miracles, even today.
While in Uganda, I have been reminded in James 5:17 that "Elijah was a man just like us. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years." Elijah, David, and Joshua were all men just like us, they had doubts and fears, but still trusted that God would pull through for them. Their actions would have been friutless if they did not have faith that God would pull through. The same God that Elijah prayed to is the God that loves me and wants to fulfill the desires of my heart. Being reminded of this has allowed my faith to grow immensely since being here. I still have fears and doubts, but I try not to let these get in the way of my faith. Along with prayers like these Bible characters, I need to be ready to fight and be persistant through actions along with the prayers of my heart.
Yesterday I visited a hospital and was able to pray for some of the patients there. Knowing that the same God who stopped the rain for three years was there with me, I prayed for the women I met with a huge passion and faith that they will be healed and will be at peace because God loved them. Visiting this hospital confirmed my passion for people who are sick and confirmed my calling into the nursing field. My faith and compassion has grown so much since being in Uganda, and I am looking forward to what God will be teaching me this next month.
