I’ve Been in Prison

So, about 4-5 years ago, my mom, a friend and I were camping. Late our first night, my mom jokingly said, "Jalin, I'm so tired, you might have to drive home on Sunday." "But I don't want to go to jail, yet." I said. Yep, I said, "yet" like I was planning on going to jail at some point in my life. Like I said it was late at night, and we all were extremly tired, I really didn't mean to say it.

On Sundays we plan to be part of the prison misistry. The first two weeks our plans were foiled, but that's Africa for you. Last week was our first time to the prison. What we do is join them for some worship and prayer, then the floor is open for the men to share a testamony, and then a short message or two is given.

I absolutely love joining these men for worship, they are so joyful to lift praises to the Lord. It's very convicting, because here they are in a work prison and giving everything they have to worship and praise God, and I more times than not hold back when I worship. Through the prison ministry God is teaching me to just love Him, and worhsip Him with EVERYTHING I am.

Today, was no different. We joined them in worship and prayer, listened to a time of testamony. Then I was invited to share with them a couple songs on my violin. I love being able to share this gift with them. To close my time, I played Amazing Grace and everyone (I think it was everyone, I couldn't tell for sure) in the room sang along. It was so sweet! The voices of these men are so BEAUTIFUL! I wish you all could hear them.

So, about 4-5 years ago I hadn't planned on going to jail, but God had. Now, here in Uganda, I look forward to going every week. I feel so excited to have the chance to worship with these men, even though I have no clue how to say almost all the words. I also feel so energized and inspired when I leave the prison. It will be so sweet when I have the chance to share with all of you back home what God is doing in this prison.
