I am perfectly healthy and am incredibly blessed and sometimes I struggle to remember to be thankful to the Lord who gave it all to me.
On Fridays we walk around the town of Lira and do “hut to hut” evangelism. This is such an incredible experience to meet some of the local people and build relationships with them. Last Friday we met 3 people in a family of many: 2 brothers, Tom and Julius, and a sister named Lydia.
As we walked up to them we realized Tom was handicap. He began yelling and running around. Once our translator saw this he kept saying "he's crazy…he's crazy…” This immediately broke my heart. In Africa when a baby is born handicap they kill them. There is no school or help for them. The sweetest part is, though this precious boy is sick and hurt, he still found it within himself to praise the name of Jesus. He sang and cried out to Jesus with the biggest smile on his face. He kept saying how happy he was that we were there. After we talked to Julius and Lydia for a while, we asked if we could pray for their family and for Tom to be healed. As we laid our hands on Tom, he didn’t know what to think, but he was still smiling.
I want to have the love for Jesus like Tom does. I want to remember to praise Jesus even when its hard, even when I’m tired, and even when I feel defeated. Why is it that precious Tom, who is incapable of so much, still finds the strength to praise Jesus in all of his hurt? Although it was such a blessing to meet Tom and pray for him, I feel like for me this was God’s way of showing me to be more thankful. In the end, I am the handicap.
Psalm 30:12- My heart may sing your praises and not be silent. Lord my God, I will praise you forever.
1 Thessalonians 5:18- Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is Gods will for you in Christ Jesus
