We made an unexpected trip to Gulu last week…unexpected for me at least = ) But through this trip, i learned the amazing power of faith! Through 1 girl’s amazing story of strength and love, I learned what it truly means to have FAITH! So this girl was 19 and in a wheelchair, but was just so full of life. The happiness just seemed to radiate through her eyes. We sat and talked for awhile about things like the weather and school, then she shared with me her story. She said she was taken by the LRA and had stayed with them for 2 weeks when the fighting broke out. She was shot in the back, which is how she ended up in the wheelchair…I broke! I just couldn’t understand why this happened to such a vibrant young woman so full of life! She proceeded to tell me that her family survived (Praise God!) but that because of her injury she was separated from them for 2 years which just made me more angry…i just kept asking why! Then she said something that hit me like a brick…she said that she used to be angry about this and just couldn’t understand why this happened to her but now she uses this story and her wheelchair as a testiment to God and His love for her! She said that there must be a reason she is still alive and she intends to use her time for God (she wants to become a professional counselor!) She has faith that God has a plan for her life that is bigger than her own…and now so do I! No longer do i see her wheelchair first, but now i can look at the strong woman of God that she is. Because of her i realized that you just gotta have faith!!
