Debrief (and cheese!)

Spending a week (or five days, whatever) in Nairobi for debrief was awesome.  It was great to meet up again with Team Kenya.  We hadn’t seen them since training camp, and honestly I’d forgotten some of their names.  But, it was great to see the way God had been moving in their team.  We listened to their stories, and they were eager to hear ours, especially because they are going to Busia, where we’d been for the past six weeks.  Our team dynamics are a lot different—team Kenya is definitely a lot more outgoing, whereas our team is a lot more chill.  It’s been really great seeing how the teams are different, and it’s made me thankful that I’m part of my team.  (I’m not trying to say that our team is better, at all, but it’s clear that people were put on their respective teams for a reason.)  Having awkwardness with team Kenya, because I don't really know them that well, made me realize just how tight our team is.

Having a week for debrief was also very necessary.  I didn’t realize how tired I was until actually having time to relax and just hang out.  In Busia, we had plenty of down time, but there was just something different about moving to a new location and having luxuries like toilets that always work, warm-ish showers, and dairy (especially grilled cheese sandwiches).  I was burnt out, and really, really, just needed some time to chillax.  And hey, that’s exactly what happened.

So, three cheers for debrief: hip hip hooray!

Also, happy St. Patrick's Day!
