After many months waiting, I have finally arrived in Uganda!!!
The flights were long and I wasn't able to finish one movie between the food we were brought, the conversations I had, and the cat naps I took, but we have made it to Uganda. Last week, I arrived at training camp and met the ten other amazing people I would be spending the summer with. Our first challenge: build a shelter with two tarps and sleep under what we have built. The rest of the days at training camp then helped us all spiritually build a foundation for the summer. Building relationships the first few days of training camp was easy becasue we all have the most important thing in common: our heart for God and building His Kingdom. It didn't hurt that all the girls cuddled under two sleeping bags the first night under our "tarp home". Living in a room with eight girls at the "Jesus house" here near Kampala, Uganda has helped us all to build our relationships as sisters. Eating peanut butter at midnight and talking about Jesus has been great bonding time. I have also begun building relationships with some locals that help out with the ministry we are working with. Today I learned that Monday we will begin building a house, goat shed, and squattie pottie (this will consist of digging a very deep hole and that's about all the plumbing we will have to do) for the village. All this building that has been going on in my life is very exciting and I am excited to keep building my relationship with the Lord, my teammates, the children we will be helping with, and the locals.
Today was my first African church service and the worship was great as I looked into the forest of Uganda and had young children signing about the love of God next to me. So far, in the few days I have been in Uganda, I can tell that God is preparing my heart to serve and is building up a compassion in me that cannot come from anything other than the Holy Spirit. This summer, we plan on doing some door to door ministry, helping at an orphanage, visiting a juvinielle center, physical labor and building, and leading Bible studies before church on Sunday. Sorry about the lack of pictures, check out my teammates blogs for more updates.I looking forward to what God will be teaching me this week and can't wait to share it with you all!
