A violent disturbance.

“She knows its raining outside, right?”

My thought as Haddie grabbed her guitar and headed out to the courtyard into the rain. I’m sure she new what she was doing, and I was getting ready for bed, so I wasn’t terribly bothered by what was going on until I heard it. One of the loudest claps of thunder I’ve ever heard. “Um, okay God, do you want me to go outside?” Another clap not 30 seconds later answered that question and I walked to the door. “Are you sure you want me outside? It’s really wet out there, and cold too. I’m sleepy. You’re going to have to push me out there or something.” Next thing I know my arms are raised, I’m soaking wet, and belting ‘Let it Rain’ over and over again until all I could do is fall to my knees.

About a month and a half ago the person I trust most in life and I had a conversation where we really felt the Lord speak to us about storms. Not just any storm, but huge, life changing storms, in the places we were getting ready to travel too. At first we weren’t exactly sure what the Lord was trying to tell us about these storms but as we prayed, and really sought after God, He slowly revealed some incredible things.

As I stood up and lifted my hands once again the Lord told me to thank Him. Thank Him for who He is, and what He has been to me. I thanked Him, and told Him how much I love Him and need Him in my life. When I was done thanking Him for the time being (I mean honestly, how could one ever be done thanking the Lord for His goodness?) He told me to speak into the next four months. In between the ‘Let it Rain’s’ and ‘Open the Floodgates’ I spoke life into Uganda, the people we are going to meet, and the places we are going to go, amongst many more things. During this time, the thunder grew louder and the lightning flashed brighter and I was reminded of something.

The Lord revealed to us that we were going to meet some literal storms where we were going, but also we were going to cause spiritual storms in the places we were going as well. The definition of storm is: a violent disturbance of the atmosphere with strong winds and usually rain, thunder, lightning, and snow. Now, clearly the last doesn’t apply in this specific case, but you get the point. We were going to not only create a disturbance of the atmosphere, but it was going to be violent. Well, okay, but how do you expect me to do this? What do I add to this storm?

“Lightning. Remember, I have called you to bring light to the darkness, to be that flash of hope in the distance, you will cause people to stop and look.” I felt the Lord sweetly remind me of what He had told me not too long ago. As I had moved around and prayed for a few of my  students the storm grew more intense. My heart literally jumped every time we heard the thunder and I couldn’t help but stop and stare at the lightning.

After our worship session.
